In an age where the internet is dominated by porn, it becomes absolutely crucial that as a parent, you protect your child against any kind of obscene or vulgar influences. It would be unrealistic for you to expect your child to stay off the internet completely. Having said that, you can still make sure that your child is not exposed to any objectionable material. This can be done by introducing parental control on your computer.

Contrary to popular belief, you dont have to be a technical expert to get a hang of these controls. They are pretty easy to learn and apply. Now, there are many softwares available in the market which block certain websites completely. This means that your child will not be able to visit these sites come what may.

These softwares can be customised to your needs and specifications. You can either block a single or muliple websites. Apart from this, there are other softwares which allow you to make a list of the sites you want to block.

However, the best of these softwares are the ones which are self regulated and do not require constant manual vigilance. They come equipped with a list of websites that are rated not fir for kids or teenagers. Such websites are then taken off the radar automatically. Also, these softwares are updated regularly and so they keep track of the newly emerging objectionable websites.

But in spite of all these technologically adavanced softwares, it is still a daunting task to ensure that your kid does not gain access to any adult or porn sites. Even normal sites like Limewire where kids often download music is loaded with porn. And its not too hard to find it either.

So, at the end of the day you have to talk to your kid about it. Confrontation is a must in matters like these not only because its the last resort but also because you dont want your kid to think of you as a tyrant. Be open about these things and try and make your kid understand your perspective. And as a parent, understand hat your kid is just plain curious. He/She might not have any ulterior intentions after all.
