For most people, their biggest concern in life is health. Beyond money or relationships, people tend to care the most about their own health. After all, everything originates from it - if you are unhealthy, you may be richest man in the world and still not be able to enjoy any of your wealth.
In a system like the United States, staying healthy can be quite a daunting task, at least financially. The cost of medical treatment tends to go up by several notches every year. In fact, if you don't have medical insurance, it is quite impossible to get treated for any condition, what with the spiralling costs of health care.
Medical insurance, therefore, is a necessity. Unfortunately, the cost of medical insurance has gone up too. This is especially true for people who are unemployed or self-employed as buying insurance individually can burn a gaping hole in your pocket. Government issued policies such as Medicaid cover only a select few among the general public (veterans, children and the poor), so the only option left for a self-employed individual is to get an insurance policy from a private insurance provider.
Private companies tend to place a lot of riders on their policies. They limit the number of people they accept and generally give out policies to people who are already in good health. This leaves out a lot of people with existing heart conditions. Therefore, before you start your hunt for an insurnace policy, do a thorough analysis of your existing conditions and of the requirements and restrictions placed by the insurance company. Pick out the policy that gives you the maximum benefits and covers the maximum number of pre-existing conditions.
Many people tend to be over cautious and get a policy that covers every illness known to man. This is counter-productive as it will just add to your cost. Get coverage only for pre-existing conditions, or conditions that run in your family, as well as some general health problems that could strike anybody (high cholesterol, heart disease, etc.).
Getting an insurance policy that can actually provide adequate coverage isn't exactly easy these days with all the restrictions placed by insurance companies. But still, if you do your research, you can find a policy that is tailor made to your needs and won't burn a hole in your pocket.
